Building The Foundations Of The New Age
On November 22nd, 1960 in a governmental building in Sacramento, Frank M. Jordan in his capacity as Secretary of State of the State of California, signed along the dotted line and in so doing officially incorporated The Aetherius Society as a 501(c)3 non-profit, religious, scientific and educational organization in America. At that time, The Aetherius Society operated out of a small, rented building on Western Avenue in Los Angeles, later demolished to make way for a Ralph’s supermarket. It was just 16 months previously that Dr. George King, the new Chairman and Founder of this young organization, had arrived in Los Angeles following an arduous month-long lecture tour crossing the country, literally, from coast to coast. As a remarkable and even renowned medium for extra-terrestrials, he had come from Britain for a UFO convention where he and his young assistant, Keith Robertson, would meet twin-sisters Irene and Monique Noppe, both long-time metaphysical students who were actively seeking a true Spiritual Master. Together, these four – soon to be joined by a fifth, Charles Abrahamson from North Dakota – became the Founding Directors of this new non-profit, Spiritual organization yet without property but with already a burgeoning congregation.

As we now look back we can see not only how far The Aetherius Society has come in America, but infinitely more important, what has taken place during this time. Within five years, this small group of dedicated and intensely hard-working individuals had been joined by several more and together they established a beautiful new Headquarters comprising three separate properties along a quiet street in the heart of Hollywood. A few years later, a fourth building, always since known as either “the fourth” or “the annex”, was added. Almost a quarter century later a second property was purchased, this time a “Missions Base” beside the Psychic Center of the Mother Earth at Lake Powell on the Arizona/Utah border. And approximately 15 years after that, the most recent property was acquired in Royal Oak, Michigan, with a magnificent Church building and accompanying parsonage to form the Michigan Branch. Within North America, although never a large organization due to the advanced nature of its Cosmic philosophy, a congregation of a few hundred has demonstrated outstanding loyalty and commitment to the great Spiritual Truths and Missions upon which this Church was founded.
On their own, these statistics are by no means remarkable, although perhaps few would have foreseen the longevity of The Aetherius Society based upon the inherent challenges of its religious beliefs in an orthodox and secular world. That it has endured is, in point of fact, precisely because of those beliefs which have deeply embedded themselves in the minds, hearts and souls of some very sincere and diligent Spiritual aspirants who were more interested in finding genuine Truth than how acceptable it might be to the overwhelming majority. But still, Spirituality has never been a numbers game, or at least, it never should be. What matters, more than anything, is Spiritual accomplishment and it is here that this small organization can continue to feel that rare mixture of pride and humility.
During the first year of George King arriving in America, four more mountains in the great inter-continental Mission, Operation Starlight, had been charged with tremendous Cosmic energies by the Masters. Indeed, this was the main reason why Dr. King had even come to the Americas, the secondary one being to spread their message to its inhabitants. Within six months of Mr. Frank Jordan’s paperwork being filed, which duly acknowledged the basis of authority within The Aetherius Society as being Interplanetary Parliament based upon the planet Saturn, the major metaphysical treatise of The Nine Freedoms had been given. This profound, and even unique, consideration of life’s journey and purpose through experience into greater and greater Cosmic expression will ultimately come to shape the whole of terrestrial reasoning, for it is only the practical application of Service that can ever endure upon this or any other world. That it is the same self-assured route to ever leave this Earth and progress through the Galaxy is no less inspiring to all Spiritually-minded individuals.
Operation World Healing and Operation Bluewater soon followed Operation Starlight which was completed high in the European Alps in the summer of 1961. Meanwhile, scores of Cosmic Transmissions continued to pour through Dr. King as he adopted the customary “positive yogic samadhic trance” – literally a state of conscious death. With many of these transmissions exceeding the danger limit of 45 minutes, Dr. King was pushing the boundaries of his own life to the very limit.
Many of these transmissions related to the transfer of intense Cosmic energy to the Logos of the planet in preparation for Her “Primary Initiation” which eventually transpired on July 8th, 1964. It is this Initiation more than any other single event, and of even greater importance than all others combined, that is contributing to the fundamental changes that are now playing out on the surface of our world. Perhaps the least commented upon, certainly in the mainstream media, though certainly the most significant is the shift in terrestrial consciousness that has ensued. Humanity, and indeed all life upon Earth, is now in a quickened state of either evolution or involution, and all of this is attributable to the Initiation the planetary Logos received 50 years ago.
It also precipitated the need for three Cosmic Adepts, and later two more, taking up residence upon Earth, essentially to counter the stirring of the lower astral realms of the planet following this Initiation. For centuries, the dark energy of mankind has been absorbed and reflected back to us by unseen forces of darkness, keeping us bound in a vicious cycle of negative karma. Over a 16-month period in the late 1960s, on two dozen separate occasions, these Adepts projected into these lower realms and fought the real “Armageddon” of our times. Known as “Operation Karmalight”, it is a battle fully recorded with the outstanding commentary of the Master Aetherius – a highly advanced Venusian Master from whom we take our name – through the unique yogic mediumship of Dr. King. Without this Initiation and without the essential Victory of these Adepts, life as we all know it would be very, very different upon our world today.
These are all the early beginnings of The Aetherius Society in America, and indeed the real foundations of a New Age upon our planet. It is a story still waiting to be fully told. Part of our future in The Aetherius Society is to tell this story to a growing audience who, as the global challenges increase their impact, is searching more and more for real answers, however unlikely they may appear on the surface. But then, as the old saying goes, “Truth is stranger than fiction.”
